Dale News Report (The ARDYs 2019)
The Report:
Last Sunday night on June 16, 2019 the ARDYs went live for the first time ever! What used to be called the Radio Disney Music Awards became the ARDYs: A Radio Disney Music Celebration. All of the years before this magical event, the award show was recorded and shown on Disney Channel the next night. Making the event go live for the first time was a big step but the loyal Disney fans made sure their voices were heard and they started the change that would make history. Every part of the show was wonderful with the energetic dance crew, fantastic performances, exhilarating DJ Steve Aoki, and the amazing host Sofia Carson keeping the audience fully engaged for the entire event. The first ever live ARDYs will definitely go down in history for being a great show and we should all be excited for what Radio Disney will create next year!
What happened at the ARDYs?
The live show started with an opening number filled with a beautiful medley of songs that were covered by Sofia Carson. Those songs were “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” by Panic! At The Disco, “Boy With Luv” by BTS and Halsey, “The Middle” by Zedd, Marren Morris, and Grey, “ME!” by Taylor Swift and Brendan Urie of Panic! At The Disco, and “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. Sofia Carson put on a great performance and captivated the fans in a way that would lead them to being very excited for the next performance. Here are some videos of the performance and the original songs:
Meg Donnelly performed her song “With U” with Fetty Wap and the performance showed the artistic chemistry between them which gave the message of the song a new and positive meaning. The Jonas Brothers performed their song “cool” while they were on tour and it was shown to the audience. It was great to see The Jonas Brothers back together and featured on the show, and the fans were really happy to see them again. BTS won the Global Phenom Award for the large amount of albums that they sold and the millions of views that their music videos have gotten. Avril Lavigne returned to the Disney stage to perform some of her popular songs and the fans loved to see their idol from years ago. Lavigne also received the “Shero” Award for being a true role model for women around the world and helping them understand why it is important to be comfortable with who they are. Brittney Barros and Malachi Haynes received the Heroes for Change Award for the passionate work that they have done to help members of their community. Andy Grammer performed his song “Don’t Give Up on Me” and captivated the audience with the song’s powerful message.
In this period of time we have reached the 30th anniversary of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and to celebrate the history of the film Tori Kelly graced the stage to perform the famous song “Part of Your World”. Kelly’s voice had the audience hooked on every word and her performance made us all want to watch and enjoy the film one more time. Gabby Barrett had two performances with her first being for the song “The Climb” from the Hannah Montana movie and the second being for her song “I Hope”. Both songs channeled Barrett’s incredible voice and made the audience fall in love with her ability to display her many talents. Lovely The Band performed their song “These are My Friends” which was a nice song to hear that related to the bond that we share with our own special group of friends. In the main event of the show, JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph performed “I Just Can’t Wait to be King!” from Disney’s The Lion King which will be coming to theaters this Summer on July 19. Here are some videos of the performances and parts of the event:
The Radio Disney Music Awards was a popular and annual event that kept the loyal Disney fans connected with their favorite stars as they all came together on one night. Now that the award show has become the ARDYs and is now live we can expect many more exciting things to come. Steve Aoki did an amazing job as the house DJ for the event and Sofia Carson was the perfect choice to be the first host. The Dale News would like to congratulate everyone that participated in the show and we can proudly say that we will never forget the success of the first ARDYs.
