Farmingdale State College Campus is equipped with many amenities for both students and faculty. The FSC Food Pantry is one of the wonderful benefits of being part of the Farmingdale Community. The FSC Pantry is an on-campus resource that works to combat food insecurity.

Located in Greenley Library, Room 114, the pantry provides all students and faculty with nutritional items and daily essentials. The pantry is a judgment-free zone for individuals to receive needed assistance. Having access to this resource alleviates the stress of numerous expensive grocery store trips. To use the pantry, any student or faculty can visit during operating hours with their RAM ID and a reusable bag. This resource is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 am – 1 pm and 4pm – 6 pm weekly. You can follow the pantry’s Instagram to stay engaged and up to date on new events.

The FSC Food Pantry opened its doors during the Spring 2022 semester. The Pantry served approximately 210 unique users in its first year, many of whom were repeat visitors. Based on both the success of the program and established need, FSC secured an additional $50K in funding from the State University of New York (SUNY) to purchase food and staff the pantry with a full-time employee Dr. Shalini Outram. In addition, SUNY Military and Veterans Affairs provided the funding for a new refrigerator, enabling the Food Pantry to offer a broader range of food offerings and fresh items such as milk, eggs, butter, fruit, and vegetables.

The pantry has come a long way since 2022 and continues to grow every semester. Students can volunteer for pantry shifts and receive applied learning credits and even stipend funding. Being a pantry volunteer is an enriching experience that allows students to be part of a larger community and make an impact. The pantry is an essential resource for many students and faculty to receive vital nutritional support.

Pantry volunteer Melina Pascual describes her experiences with the Food Pantry in this way, “Being a volunteer has been a wonderful experience. I have been able to form connections with Farmingdale faculty and students. I have felt empowered to be part of the initiative to end food insecurity on campus. I am grateful to have participated in this initiative and hope to spread awareness about this resource on campus.”
