Greenley Library Services (Fall 2020)
Written by Isaiah Hilman-Smalls
The Fall 2020 semester has begun and students are getting ready to embark on an academic journey that they will never forget. This semester will be different as many students will have to learn through remote learning where their main place to work is at home. As we all know, working from home presents a challenge because of the many distractions that can get in the way of our concentration. However, when the fierce students of Farmingdale State College have a goal, they stay the course and find a way to survive and conquer!
For the students that have to be on campus during this time, there are many services that have been put in place to help them get through the semester. One of those services is the one provided by Greenley Library.
Here is what Fatoma Rad, the Acquisitions Librarian, had to say about the services that the library will provide for FSC students:
“
Greenley Library reopened its doors on the first day of the semester, August 27th. The Library will resume regular hours but will be enforcing new protocols for the safety of the campus community and library staff. The entire campus, as well as Greenley library, will be requiring face masks. All students must wear masks at all times when in the library. The library will be practicing social distancing at all times. We have spaced out our furniture and study spaces for your safety. All study tables are for use by one person at a time, and there will be no group study spaces.
Remember to maintain at least six feet of distance at all times. We have installed plexiglass at both the Circulation and Reference desks, and ask that you maintain six feet of distance when waiting at either desk. Books will be circulated regularly. Students may check out up to ten circulating books at a time for 16 weeks. Reserve textbooks will be available for two hours at a time, in library use only. All Reserve Material can be located at the Circulation desk. This semester, the library will not be circulating headphones or laptops. The Circulation Desk will be closed daily from 12:00pm – 1:00pm.
Reference services will be available both online and in person, the Reference Desk will be closed from 4:00pm – 5:00pm from Monday to Thursday. Students can email the Library at reference@farmingdale.edu for remote assistance, or they can come in person and seek assistance at the Reference Desk.
Greenley Library is a designated Green Zone. Be sure to check out FSC’s The Hub to learn more about Green Zones. Greenley Library has approximately 120 seats available with social distancing rules in place. If you have an online class right before or after an on-campus class you can use the library space to attend your online class, please be sure to bring headphones. Printers, scanners and copy machines will be available for student use.
We would like to remind students that to get the most up to date information about library services and hours, please visit the library website at www.farmingdale.edu/library.

This semester will be difficult and along the way there will be many obstacles, but students can make it through the semester successfully if they take advantage of these services to ensure that they have the tools and resources to give their best academic performance.
