In the white clouds, I will look for you to see
the lifetime and cycles you passed by for me to be.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of January.
What do you have for me today?
I know not much, but what my grandmother would say.
I honor the way you jump to me~
The way you help me see the heritage of all that be.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s first of February.
What do you have for me today?
Where true love blooms behind closed doors and bedrooms—
When two become three.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of March.
What do you have for me?
To March at the beat of my own heart
and meet the maker of this worldly art.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of April,
What do you have for me?
That I may see
that you truly are and always will be with me.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of May.
What do you have for me?
I want to know how I can be free
through all the generations of eternality.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of June.
What do you have for me?
It seems that time is moving so soon.
Old— No longer young…
It seems to be forgotten,
Our motherland tongue.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of July.
What do you have for me?
As the stars are a shining sea.
The fireworks come by and go— summer high and low.
The family we once knew has grown out of the old clothes.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of August.
What do you have for me?
Remember when those loved ones were still alive?
Now it seems like a chore just to survive.
To share the story so that they can trust there is something— uniting all of us.
And that they must continue to thrust that purpose forward.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of September.
What do you have for me?
Time seems to be going by…
If I can’t get time, then it seems that I
should be spending it more with those in my lifetime…
But leaves fall away
and even the brightest of the lights go astray.
So,
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of October.
What do you have for me?
The leaves are falling,
old loved ones are calling
in the spirit realm that we no longer see.
Their flesh is falling away, lying in the grave…
where we have to be the one that the young ones look up to see.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of November.
What do you have for me?
We come together to give thanks
to those who have come… to those who have gone…
Only so much can go on…
in this time.
I’m feeling older as the weight of tradition in my heart grows sober as it goes colder.
Grasping onto the memories of the generations,
trying to share the story so that they will be remembered.
White rabbit, white rabbit, it’s the first of December.
What do you have for me?
I’m not talking about what’s under the Christmas tree,
or the savior who was born a baby.
When time is all gone, and my grandmother who once sang this song has now left me alone to sing this song, what am I to do?
I must continue through for the generations that come to pass so that they too may know you and ask—
White rabbit, white rabbit, what do you have for me?
White rabbit, white rabbit,
it’s the first of this moment, now.
What do you have for me today?
There’s not much else I can say.
2022 Multicultural Gala
