During these extremely uncertain times, we would like to address the issues that have severely impacted Black people. We are all aware that these issues are not brand new. Black people in this country have been subject to racist and oppressive forces in America since before we were born, but that does not make these issues any less of our problem. Systemic oppression is real and must be combatted to ensure political, educational, social, and economic equality for ALL. As the new generation of freedom fighters, it is our responsibility to do all we can to prevent another generation of freedom fighters.
While 2020 is surely a year for the history books, it is up to us to determine what we will be remembered for. The outbreak of a pandemic will surely always have its place, but how we respond to COVID-19 in light of its various discriminatory effects will remain on the front cover. The NAACP of Farmingdale State College continues to mourn the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Sean Reed and all our other Black brothers and sisters who have lost their lives to systems of Police Brutality and White Supremacy. While we are deeply saddened, we are equally enraged by not only the present incidents, but also the perpetual institution of racism in this country. We are done dying.
The NAACP at Farmingdale is here for this very reason. We seek to abolish the repressive systems that plague us daily. However, we cannot do this without you. Please join us in challenging the Farmingdale State College Community to make a change to contribute to the downfall of the systemic oppression of Black lives. We encourage you to use your platform to share helpful information. We invite you to donate whatever you can to organizations you see fit to fight oppression. Continue to demand justice, vote, and challenge racism at every turn. Please stay tuned for action coming soon.
