April 13, 2021 – Isaiah Hilman-Smalls
Tomorrow on Wednesday, April 14th, the SUNY Chancellor’s Award Ceremony for Student Excellence will be held virtually at 2pm!!
This is what President Nader said about the ceremony:
To the Campus Community:
I am proud to announce that four FSC students have received SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence.
Senior Darrien Hunt received a Student Excellence Special Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. This is the first time such an honor has been awarded by SUNY and Darrien was the single honoree from nominations across all of SUNY’s 64 campuses. He established the first NAACP chapter in the College’s history, is Vice President of the Student Government Association, and has been part of multiple campus organizations including the Black Student Union, CSTEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program), and the Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Society. In June 2020, when national conversations about racial justice were ubiquitous after the murder of George Floyd, Darrien planned and led the virtual event, “Student Voices: The Systematic Oppression of Black Lives,” which brought together the campus community for education, discussion, and healing.
Angelique Roberson, Simran Mohan, and David Wan also received SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence. Angelique was granted the Newman Civic Fellowship Award in 2020, which recognizes and supports community-committed students who are change-makers and problem-solvers and have the potential for public leadership. Simran is a RAM (Research Aligned Mentorship) program scholar who has participated in a legislative internship in Albany and a Criminal Justice internship. David is a RAM program scholar who also received the Institute of Electrical/Electronic Engineers Scholarship for his excellence in academics and leadership and passion for engineering.
I am extremely proud of each of these students. These awards reflect very positively on the quality of our student body and the initiative they demonstrate in their academic and community pursuits. Congratulations to each of them.
Congratulations to Darrien Hunt, Angelique Roberson, Simran Mohan, and David Wan on their big achievement!
