My name is Aasin A. Thomas and I am a fine artist. With my art, I will educate those who are oblivious of the wounded, starving, and above all the suppressed and lost Black lives. The voice is powerful, but always fades. I paint to symbolize the struggles of Black lives in everyday societies. You and I both see it but eventually it is ignored, while the next generation is unaware. I want people to see the worst of our society and understand these issues. We are in a different time and there are different ways of eliciting the same hate and supremacy.
Injustice and Generational are two artworks based on the true story of my best friend. He was a joyful, young Black man who was shot in front of my eyes and died. In turn, his son was left without a father to starve and fend for himself. Enraged by the absence of his father, his anger drove him down the path that was once opposed by his father and led him to a life of crime in order to survive. Finally, his life was taken by the justice system. This same cycle of injustice has become an evident and generational pattern in black Lives.
Being a victim of such indecency has ignited an amalgamation of creativity in me. Everyday Black men and women are killed in cold blood, taken from their families and friends, and forgotten in an instant. With my creative skills, I will bring light to the fatherless sons and daughters of the murderous systems we abide by. The more bloodshed, the chances of hope and change becomes an enigmatic concept. With my artistic skills, I will show what this society does to black lives, as well as what we do to each other in order to produce a change.
