  • Black Panther Movie Review

Released on February 16, 2018, during Black History Month, Black Panther is currently the highest grossing film of 2018 as well as the 20th highest grossing film of all time. What makes Black Panther so special is that it has a cast consisting of mostly black people whereas most American movies tend to have a cast consisting mostly of white people. There is a lot of colorism present in communities of color and I liked how Black Panther’s cast consisted of actors with darker skin.

I am not a fan of superhero films, however I really enjoyed the movie. I loved the costume designs and the thought process that went into it. The costume designer took aspects of many different African tribes and incorporated them into the costumes very beautifully. I loved the original soundtrack which also featured many black artists. Black Panther really attempted to represent the people that often don’t get properly represented or represented at all. I think this a positive trend that we will be seeing this year in the entertainment industry with Disney having released Coco representing the Latino community and A Wrinkle in Time that contains a very diverse cast.
