A Statement from The Student Government Association
Written By The Student Government Association
These past months have been challenging, infuriating, and exhausting for many. The SUNY Farmingdale State College Student Government Association (“Farmingdale SGA”) stands in solidarity with members of the campus community who have been affected by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others. It’s truly heartbreaking to repeatedly see that black and brown people are dying at excessive rates due to injustices embedded within our society. Those of you who are mourning, frustrated, and looking for guidance or to act; we see you.
Farmingdale SGA does not condone any form of racism, bigotry, and hateful rhetoric towards black people. We are a united community, and we cannot turn our backs on our black and brown students when they need us the most. Staying silent is being complicit with the ongoing oppression that plagues our society. We must stand together during these hard times, and use our voices to fight for what is right. As a Farmingdale community, we must unite and condemn all acts of racism, anti-blackness, and white supremacy.
Farmingdale SGA challenges you to do your part. Remember we are students, but we are also human and it is okay to acknowledge things that are not alright. Everyone, take this time to educate yourself and get involved within your community, whether it is donating or volunteering. We have to unite and resist because it is not enough to be a non-racist, you need to be actively anti-racist and inclusive.
We were elected by you and we will stand by you.
