Unless you live under a rock, it has been evident that the Corona Virus is causing an insane amount of fear among most citizens. We have all heard by now that face to face classes have been suspended for the rest of the semester and will presume online after Spring Break. Is this necessary? How will the thousands of students at Farmingdale be affected?

The pandemic is becoming worse and worse!

A student at Farmingdale has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and toilet paper is flying off the shelves. It is insane to think about Governor Cuomo’s statement where he said that the worse may not come for another 45 days. When we signed up for classes, some of us signed up online. Nonetheless, many of us signed up for face to face classes.

Part of our college experience is actually being on campus. We socialize, take part in clubs, and get to work with our professors. While there is little the school can control in the midst of a pandemic, it makes us wonder if our online education will be the same quality as in person classes.

Some students worry that they will not receive credits for labs. Cuomo said “some exceptions may be made for labs” in an earlier statement amidst the initial shutdown of all face to face classes. What does this mean? Students signed up for classes, are paying for tuition, and they want their credits. The school must figure out and clearly explain to students if any classes are in danger of being “incomplete”. What are students who are taking labs to graduate in May supposed to do if they cannot complete a lab?

Students at Farmingdale State College want clarity. They must know what is going on during this time of crisis. It is essential that the school figures out a way to ensure all students get the credits they are signed up for. Even if the credit is for a lab, it is essential students do not suffer a loss of time and money due to this horrific pandemic.
