Dale News Report: Johnny Gargano Finally Wins The NXT Championship!
The Report:
Johnny Gargano is the new NXT Champion! After the long years of fighting battles, overcoming obstacles, and never giving up he has finally achieved his dream! The journey of Johnny Gargano teaches us to always believe in ourselves and make the most of every opportunity we are given because one day we will all achieve our dreams. Let this be a lesson for all of us to make sure that we never forget where we came from and how we got to where we are. Our stories will mean something to millions one day so let’s keep on fighting and believing that we can reach the top of the mountain!
What Happened?
Last night at NXT Takeover New York, which took place at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Johnny Gargano finally won the NXT Championship! In the main event of Takeover, Gargano went one on one with Adam Cole in a two out of three falls match to determine who would become the new champion. The original main event match would have been with Gargano going against the former champion, Tommaso Ciampa, but due to a serious neck injury Ciampa had to relinquish the title.
Adam Cole became the next challenger for the title by winning in a fatal five way match against The Velveteen Dream, Matt Riddle, Ricochet, and Aleister Black. Cole’s main argument leading into the main event at Takeover was that Gargano had never been successful at NXT’s pay per views. He even called Gargano “Johnny Participation” as a reference to how the WWE Universe call Gargano “Johnny Wrestling”. Cole went on to say how he made his debut at Takeover Brooklyn and how he became the first ever North American Champion at Takeover New Orleans. Gargano responded by saying how he knows that they had different paths to getting to the main event but he would never change what he had experienced because it made him who he was today. Last night those experiences made him the new NXT Champion.
The two out of three falls match was brutal and it went back and forth with both competitors giving everything they had. Cole got the first fall after hitting The Last Shot and from then on the pressure was building on Gargano’s hope to capture the title. Gargano was able to obtain the second fall by locking in The Gargano Escape to cause Cole to tap out. Now the next fall by either superstar would declare the end of the match and both superstars were not going to let that decision come easy. When Gargano applied The Gargano Escape for a second time The Undisputed Era, Adam Cole’s group, came in to try to take out Gargano while the referee was down. Even though they tried, The Undisputed Era’s interference was not enough to stop the heart of Johnny Wrestling. Gargano went outside the ring and took out the three members of The Undisputed Era and came back in the ring to get hit with a super kick and another Last Shot by Adam Cole. Somehow Gargano was able to kick out and survive one more time causing Cole to become very frustrated. Then Gargano locked in The Gargano Escape for a third time and got Cole to tap out to allow him to become the new champion.
This victory was definitely worth the wait and the journey for Johnny Gargano finally got to come to the end where his dream was achieved. At the end of the night Gargano got to stand next to his wife, Candace LeRae, and Tommaso Ciampa as they celebrated his big win. This was a great moment because the history that they all shared has led to Gargano being in the main event and becoming the champion. It will be exciting to see what happens next but for now we can say that future is very bright for Johnny Gargano.
