In high school, I didn’t value an agenda as much as I should’ve, like most of us in the past. However, I’ve found that using a planner is actually incredibly helpful and a great way to keep track of your work! I used a planner in the fall and it helped me survive my first semester in college. I truly believe that I would’ve been overwhelmed and missing several assignments if it weren’t for my planner.
To test my own theory, I tried to go a week without touching my planner and it was quite...

Accessibility and Advocacy: Effecting Positive Change on Campus
Farmingdale State College has pride in its strength as an institution. One such strength is that of Farmingdale’s Disability Services Center (DSC). This department’s success is truly due to its phenomenal and dedicated staff. I have reached the opinion that any organization will not be successful unless they seek feedback from those that they hope to serve. I also believe that the most successful organizations are the ones that actively include their target demographic in the decision-making...

Procrastination and Time Management
One of the biggest things any college student is going to face is procrastination, only because we are terrible with time management. As we always put things off to the last minute. Especially a student who has a job, in-between extracurricular, maybe a sports team and just a personal life. No one probably procrastinates more than a college student. I myself am a long-term sufferer in procrastination. I'm always waiting until the last minute to do things, and things then start piling up. And...

Farmingdale Greek Life
Farmingdale State College has a unique Greek life that has continued to grow throughout the years. Farmingdale State College chartered its first fraternity in 2011, and has since continued to charter Greek life. In 2019, we now have three NPC sororities, two Latin sorority/fraternities, four men’s fraternities, and are in the process of colonizing two Divine Nine organizations. Farmingdale Greek life contributes to all aspects of the campus community. Therefore, our Campus, which used to be ...

The Positives and Negatives of Commuting as a Freshman in College
First thing first, freshmen who attend Farmingdale State College are allowed to have cars on campus, although not many SUNYs allow this. So, you’re a freshman in college straight out of high school and you probably don’t know what it really means to be a commuter in college. But don’t worry, I’m here to tell you all about the positives and the negatives of commuting as a freshman.
For starters, commuting includes a wide variety of methods, and those methods are: driving a car, riding the ...

Why Join Greek Life
The best advice I can give to all incoming freshman and transfer students is to join some type of club on campus. Joining a club on campus is the easiest way to meet new people and it is extremely important in being able to get the full college experience. College is what you make of it, and what you put into it is what you will get out. Fraternities and sororities are a great way to meet people and learn more about yourself. Fraternities and sororities typically have rituals and creeds whic...

What I Wish I Knew Before College
The transition from high school to college can definitely be intimidating and you’ll have lots of questions: where do I hang out during my free time?, where do I go to get my student parking pass?, how do I make new friends?, and how do I select my classes for the upcoming semester?, are just a few of the questions that will pop into your head at some point as you prepare to come to Farmingdale State College. Sometimes I wish that there was a college handbook that could give me all the info...

Experience
In many respects, the Social Media Marketing/Brand Marketing Department of the FSC campus is the lifeblood of the university. It provides a wealth of invaluable information about the FSC identity and the students/faculty/staff that work here. The Social Media Marketing Department’s services are fairly straightforward. We basically deal in avenues of advertising and information. The Marketing and Advertising Department is basically the nucleus for college enrollment and branding specialties. ...

Should schools be teaching more things about lifestyle?
Some of us that are in high school already know what they want to do. While most in college know what they want to do, others do not. For every person that does know what they want to do, there is a person that does not know what they want to do. A lot of times these students go unnoticed. I know the feeling of being in school and not knowing what to do. I have changed majors several times. It was like you’re just in school just because it is a norm in our culture that school is something we...

How Greek Life Changed College for Me
One of the most important things we are always told in school is to get involved, in whatever type of extracurricular activity that may interest you. As a new college student last year, like many of us, I chose not to listen to that advice. Doing so I did not enjoy freshman year whatsoever; I went to classes and sat in my car on breaks just to go back home at the end of the day. I viewed each person I walked past as a stranger because I never had any social interactions with other people aro...
