Farmingdale State College provides a wide array of services to ensure the success of students, to sharpen their research and writing skills, to maintain their health and well-being, and personal counseling when required, all free to registered students.
The Academic Advisement and Information Center, or AAIC provides guidance you need to work efficiently as you register for classes. Before you select and register for courses, students meet with their assigned academic advisor, this helps ensure students stay on track with the courses that apply with their major and keep them on track towards graduating.
The Tutoring Center helps students in areas they may be struggling with. Services include individual or group tutoring sessions. Typically, there are approximately 15-20 peer and 8-10 professional tutors each semester. All student tutors have taken the class they are tutoring and have received an A in the class. Tutoring is conducted on a walk-in basis which means no appointments are necessary. The tutoring center can be reached at 631-420-2066.
The Writing Centers mission is to support and teach students through the entire writing process in any subject area. Professional writing specialists will guide you through the writing process, providing writing assistance from conception through to completion of your paper for any course in any curriculum.
The Greenley Hall library is a hotspot for students, weather it is between classes or late night studying. Greenely library offers various forms of study space for its students. Desktop computers are set up for student use downstairs with tables for group study space. Upstairs, students will find more private study spaces. Rooms for group studying can be reserved for two or more students. There is also a silent study room if you really need to cram for a test.
The Disability Services Center (DSC) is dedicated to the principle that equal opportunity be afforded each student to reach his/her fullest potential. The goal is to assist students with disabilities to function as independently as possible, where individuals with disabilities have the same access to programs, opportunities and activities as all other students at the college.
Veterans Affairs will help the applicants navigate the admissions, registration and financial aid process. Farmingdale also has a veterans club that meets on Tuesdays during the fall
and spring semesters in the Veterans lounge. Another service offered free for students at FSC is the Health and Wellness Center. The Health and
Wellness Center provides anything from prescription and over-the-counter medications, and immunizations to stretching, yoga, and relaxation classes as well as massage therapy. The Health and Wellness Center can be reached at 631-420-2009.
Mental Health is just as important as physical health. Farmingdale has its very own Campus Mental Health Services for students use. Campus Mental Health Services provides a
wide range of professional counseling services to all students. Counseling is offered for individuals, couples, and groups. Among the areas that can be addressed include anxiety and stress management, coping and problem solving skills, relationship issues, depression, family crisis, trauma and loss, adjustment to college life and living, anger management, communication skills, substance use and abuse, and habit disorders. The Career Development Center is designed to assist you through all stages of your career exploration and job search. Career assessments, interviewing skills, and networking skills are just a few of the many services offered to students and alumni.
Farmingdale State College is committed to providing a safe, secure and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors. As one of the 28 state-operated campus of the State University of New York, Farmingdale State is protected by professionally-trained and armed University Police. A staff of 23 full-time employees is responsible for patrolling the 380-acre campus, enforcing campus rules and regulations, and aiding students and staff in cases of emergencies. University Police Officers have the authority and the full arrest powers of any other professional law enforcement agent.
During your time at Farmingdale State College, you have the option to study in another country. Programs range from a fall or spring semester to summer sessions or even spring break and Thanksgiving break. Study Abroad is an amazing opportunity for students to travel overseas, enroll in classes at a foreign university, and experience a new culture.
