5 Peaceful Places on Campus

It can be extremely frustrating when you’re trying to do homework or get some studying in, but there are other people making noise and distracting you. I have put together a list of places on campus where you can not only get your work done, but have it done in peace and quiet as well.

The first place on the list is the teaching gardens. The teaching gardens is a part of the Department of Ornamental Horticulture. They gardens stretch in an area larger than 4 acres and consist of “theme gardens” or “garden rooms.” The gardens are generally open every day from April to November. They may be accessed through the main Garden Gate from 8 AM to 5 PM daily. As part of their course requirements, students have laid out beds and borders, dug and prepared soil, planted and pruned, and removed countless undesirable weeds. Some of the “garden rooms” include, The Annual Beds, The Grass Garden, The Rose Garden, and so much more. If the weather is nice outside, I would definitely recommend paying a visit to the teaching gardens!

Another great place to get your homework done is the second floor of Hale Hall. Hall Hall houses the majors for sciences and arts. However, if you visit the second floor you will be able to get your work done no matter what your major is. The second floor is consisted of two main areas where you can get your homework done. The first area is a lounge in the corner of the second floor. The second area is the main lounge area in the middle of the floor. Not many students take advantage of these roomy and quiet lounges, making these the perfect places to get some work done without any disturbances.

A third great place for some peace and quiet is the lowest level of the library. Since the new reconstruction, the first floor of the library is no longer used as much. Besides the AAIC office and many book shelves, there is nothing but peace and quiet in the lowest level of the library. There are large tables in case a group needs to work together on a project. There are also separate areas made if someone needs extra isolation to work. You can take a quick walk to the library and get your work done in no time!

Sinclair Hall is also a great place to get your work done. Sinclair Hall offers a few free services as well. Since no actual classes are offered in Sinclair, it is usually quiet there most of the time. Sinclair is used for other purposes such as the tutoring center. The free tutoring center is located on the first floor, in case you need help with your homework or the subject your learning. The campus mental health services are also located on the first floor. These are a couple of free services offered in Sinclair Hall. If, however, you just need a quiet place to work, Sinclair is great for that too.

The last and probably the most convenient place to work quietly is Orchard Hall. Orchard Hall is where resident students stay. If you are a resident student, there is no better place to get your work done than your own convenient room. If, however, you are not a resident student, you can always make a friend who is a resident student. It’s as if you’re in a home away from home; your dorm room. There, you’ll have everything you’ll need, from food to extra pens, it’ll all be there.

It’s understandable that you may not have time to do your homework at home. Therefore, these places provide a great place for working quietly for the small amount of time that you find you do have.
