Oh, Why Hello There!

keep calm and busy busy busy
Hey there Farmingdale! First of all, I hope everyone has enjoyed their first month back on campus and are doing well in their classes. My name is Kaitlyn Mackey and I am a first semester junior in the Visual Communications major. This year is all about doing new things for me, especially since I will be graduating next year (gulp!). So I have a lot to do until then. Besides all the classes I’m taking this semester, I also am involved in quite a few organizations. The one that I have been doing t...

Week 2 of London Life!

3
This past week was our orientation week for classes because things run very different here than they do in the US. In the UK, students only apply to 4 colleges based on their major. Once they are accepted to either a university, they choose a university and major right away. In America, we do a year of general education courses, where here, they just get right into their degree of study. So when we met some British students, their first question is always “What are you studying?” A UK student wo...

Week 1 in London!

IMG 0942
Arrived in London, England! Many mixed emotions, but mostly excited to be studying abroad! I arrived at Heathrow Airport, and had to lug my three, yes three, suitcases through the airport down to the tube (subways), and took the tube for an hour to Kings Cross Station, which is a 5 minute walk from where I am living for the next 4 months! I found a black cab, and he took me to my accommodations. While we were driving, I asked the dirver a few questions.  He told me that in order to be a cab driv...

Joys and Silliness of Living at Home!

IMG 9766
We all know that people say that staying in the dorms during college is the best thing, I happen to disagree with this statement. For me, the best thing that I ever did was live at home while I was in college.   In the summer of 2012, I stayed on campus in the dorms for two weeks. I tried the whole dorming thing and it was not for me. The following, in no particular order, are the top five things that I found to be great in the past three years that I have been in college while living at home. ...

Do you believe in magic? Part One.

Happy Summer my lovely readers! How are we all doing on this lovely July day? I am having the best start to my summer and I am so happy that I am able to share it all with you! My sister is four years younger than I am and just ended her sophomore year of high school. Being that she was in her sophomore year, she had a lot of testing. So as you can assume, to start off my summer, I was “Driving Miss. Daisy” as some people call it. I really did not mind it; I would rather drive her than have her...

Living Argentina

While stepping foot on American Airlines flight 535 from New York to Buenos Aires, I had little expectations of what my life in Argentina would be like. Having lots of Argentine friends back in the states, I knew there was something special about this country but was never able to decipher what that was. It wasn’t until I arrived that I began to put the puzzle together. It’s been three months and I’m still working on completing that puzzle. These three months quickly taught me to put a...

Five Reasons Why You Should Take A Campus Tour

When I began my search for college I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I did some research online and found a few colleges that looked interesting and seemed to offer the programs the I was interested in. But, you can only learn so much from reading information and looking at pictures. It wasn't until I visited the college's that I really decided. So, I highly recommend taking a campus tour before making a decision and here are 5 reasons why. 1. Explore the campus in person - There is no...
