Another week in London

I had my first group presentation this week for my Destination Marketing class. It's a really interesting class where we learn to market, sell and brand destinations. We were assigned a small town called Epping Forest, right outside of London. With my group we spent many hours researching to make our poster, and here, you can't just cut and glue pictures onto a poster, everything must be professionally printed. For example, we had to do everything online, and print it out on the poster itself to...

Czech Republic

In Prague, Czech Republic! It's so much colder here than back in London! When we arrived in Prague, we went straight to our hostel, by bus, to drop our bags off, then it was a short walk into Old Town. Old Town was really cool, with a lot of history and food stalls all around you. One of the coolest historical buildings is where Walt Disney got his inspiration for how Sleeping Beauty's castle would look! There is the Astronomical clock tower that constantly had tourists standing there on the hou...

Austria

Arrived in the gorgeous Linz, Austria! On our train ride from Prague to Linz, we saw some incredible Austrian countryside. The majority of the time on the train we discussed about the Von Trapp family from the sound of music, and how they shot some of the scenes right where we were. It is incredible to think that people live on some of the farms we passed. They are many miles away from any local town or store, I can’t imagine if they forgot to buy eggs at the shop and had to go all the way back ...

Week 7 in London

Crazy weather this week in London! This past week, it was typical sporadic rain showers during the day with minor winds. Then the past couple of days, were absolutely stunning, and close to 70 almost! To me, 70 means a t-shirt and jeans, to Europeans, it means jeans, sweaters and scarfs! Seeing what they wear, makes me feel like I am totally underdressed when I am actually  super hot! The last few days have been so nice and have made me want to spend all my time outdoors! However, I have had ...

Wales

This weekend my roommate and I went to Cardiff, Wales for the day. Racing against the clock we rushed to the Victoria Coach Station only to find out our bus was delayed by a half hour. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the Cardiff castle! I was amazed how it just beautifully sat right in the city centre near all the shops. However, we decided to visit the castle last and start our adventures two miles away at the Cardiff Bay. The bay was a nice experience. It mixed together the two aspects of ...

Week 5!

Week 5 here in London! Normally during this time of year in America there are loads of Halloween decorations wherever you go. In London, there is barely anything! After speaking to many friends and some locals, they shared with me that Halloween is not a popular thing here at all. So what I am telling you is that on Halloween, I will not be able to go around to various houses to get free candy. I was told that if us American's do that, they normally houses won't answer the door, or call the cops...

England in a day

My roommate and I did a day tour to the English countryside! First, we had to get to the bus station super early, because of first destination was Stonehenge! What amazes me most, is seeing and knowing these places in my mind, but to be there in person, is indescribable. Stonehenge is ever more spectacular because if you drive 2 hours outside of London on the main highway, you could pass it without even knowing! Stonehenge is located on the side of the highway, in the middle of pig farms, and op...

Week 4 – Settled down

Week 4 – Over ¼ of my time here in London has gone by, and it’s going quick! This week was a bit of a transition week, especially with classes starting and getting assignments. After months of being out of school, it is taking a lot to get used to this thing called homework. :)  It’s even trickier here because the teachers don’t check if you do your work, they just expect that you are constantly up to date with all the work and readings.   In between classes, I love to explore the surro...

Scotland

Wow, what an amazing weekend! It was quite a long bus ride about 9 ½ hours from London to Glasgow, Scotland. It was overnight, as we arrived to the bus terminal in Glasgow about 7am. We were expecting cafes and shops to be open where we could get a coffee before we headed to our accommodation but it was completely the opposite. A huge ghost town! We found a McDonalds that was open, (thank goodness for that!), and spent some time there before we spoke to some locals who said that nothing opens up...

Week 3, back to reality!

I finally feel that I have settled down, and am really getting to know this town! Classes officially started, and what a difference it is to be on a schedule! I am taking mostly business-focused classes with students who are juniors and seniors (called 2nd and 3rd years). So far the courses seem very interesting. I attend a lecture for each class then after the lecture we have a small break and go to our seminar.  In seminar, we discuss what we learned in the lecture, and work on our assignments...
