Change means entering the unknown, starting something new and facing things that we have probably never been faced with before, Often times when we have to face some sort of change in our lives, we can find ourselves fearful of that change, because we do not know how it is going to turn out. I was born in a small town in Dominican Republic Called Sabaneta and in 2012 when I moved to the United States I was faced with one of the biggest changes that I have experienced in my life. Not only was I moving to a whole new country with a different language, culture and beliefs, but I was also going to transitioned from being a High School Student to being a full time College student.

I was really scared of how I would get adjusted to the Campus and how people would treat me, especially since I was not from the community and I did not know, how to best interact with college students in the United States. I started my first semester in the fall of 2012, as soon as I started my college life at Farmingdale State College I was surprised by how welcomed I felt. My fellow students, the staff and my professors made me feel like I had made the right choice when I decided to come to this campus.

One of the things I used to struggle the most with was essay writing. In my country it was never a priority for me to learn how to write an essay correctly, because they used other methods. Also since English was not my mother language, I had a lot of trouble putting my thoughts together in an essay. I took a Basic Writing Skills class offered at FSC in my first semester and received a lot of help at the writing center and it was really amazing how much I learned.

Today I am a first semester senior and I have written multiple essays, research papers and term papers. I can say with no doubt that if it had not been for all the help and resources that I was able to find at FSC, I would not have gotten where I am today. I was scared of change in 2012, today I am happy to say that I picked this school and I have seen tremendous growth in me, as a person , student and as a member of this wonderful campus. Farmingdale State College will always have a special place in my heart.
