The Greek Life Survival Guide Part II

Chapter 2: Life after receiving a bid

In my last blog post i explained the rushing and bid process, in this blog i will be covering some key terms that occur once you accept a bid.

Now that you have gone through the process of rushing and were rewarded with a bid the decision to commit to an organization is all up to you, but once you accept a bid from an organization you just started day one of your Educational Process. An educational process is the time where you dedicate your time and skills to the organization and you learn the ins and outs of the organization. Typically when you go through an educational process you will learn the history of your organization as well as how to be greek, like knowing the greek alphabet so you can identify other organizations besides your own.

There is one word that negatively clouds all greek life which is Hazing the definition of hazing is is the practice of activities involving harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a group. Thankfully here at Farmingdale all of the greek organizations do not participate in hazing practices.

keep calm and go greek

When you go through an educational process you become extremely close with all of the other people in your Candidate Class which is just all the other people who accepted a bid with you and stand there next to you as you help each other through your process. these people typically become your closest friends once you get in because you created such a strong bond together while going through your educational process.

The main goal of your candidate class and for the members of the organization is to prepare you for Initiation which is the moment where you become a full member of your organization, the moment of initiation is one of the most memorable and rewarding moments of your life because in that moment everything you worked for starting from the first day of rush all the way through your educational process becomes worth it and you are now a member for life.

In the next chapter of this survival guide i plan on writing about the professional, social and interpersonal benefits of being a member of greek life and name a few famous people who you may have never thought would make the decision to go greek.
