England in a day

My roommate and I did a day tour to the English countryside! First, we had to get to the bus station super early, because of first destination was Stonehenge! What amazes me most, is seeing and knowing these places in my mind, but to be there in person, is indescribable. Stonehenge is ever more spectacular because if you drive 2 hours outside of London on the main highway, you could pass it without even knowing! Stonehenge is located on the side of the highway, in the middle of pig farms, and open countryside. We were able to view it on an absolutely gorgeous day.

After our time at Stonehenge, we took off to the town of Bath. It is literally famous for a Bath, Roman Bath to be exact. It’s a very old town, where it’s buildings are all made from the same yellow/tan bricks. You cannot build a house from any other material than that tan bricks. Bath is a super cute town, with small cafes and big cathedral in the middle of the center. To get to Bath, we traveled through many small villages, with populations of barely 100 residents! The drive to Bath was beautiful, driving through the hills, seeing sheep farms on both sides, you wouldn’t believe you’re in England. After a fresh hot chocolate, and some baked Bath goodies, we headed to Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare’s hometown.

In Stratford, we went to Shakespeare Center, there we were met by local actors who put on a mini piece of some of Shakespeare’s greatest works. We took a tour of his quaint home, and strolled through the village he grew up in. It’s a small, village with many cute shops that boast Shakespeare’s history. After Stratford, we headed back to London through the stunning countryside. We drove over 300 miles in one day, but I felt like I saw a whole new, and beautiful side of England!
