The Greek Life Survival Guide Part I

Chapter One: Defining Greek Life

As a member of Greek life for four years now, i felt like the best place to start when it comes to Greek life is defining all the terms that revolve around our lifestyle which we sometimes forget that non Greek members may not understand.

The most important word that is thrown around a lot is Rush.  In the beginning of each semester, there are fliers, shirts, and images all around social media that say RUSH (insert organization here). Rush is the process where Greek organizations open up their organization to the rest of the campus and invite men or woman to join them.

The Process of Rushing means that a non Greek individual is learning about Greek life by participating in events thrown by organization meeting other members and figuring out if they feel like they will fit in and want to join the organization.

Once a person has rushed an organization and made the decision that they want to be a part of Greek life and the organization feels like this said rush has potential to join, they will extend this person a Bid. When a person who is rushing receives a bid it is basically an invitation to join their organization, since typically not everyone who rushes an organization does not get a bid receiving a bid is an extreme honor.

In the next chapter of my blog segment i will start defining different terms like pledging and hazing, Also, i will be explaining what happens after a person receives a bid so stay tuned!
