Five Reasons Why You Should Take A Campus Tour

When I began my search for college I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I did some research online and found a few colleges that looked interesting and seemed to offer the programs the I was interested in. But, you can only learn so much from reading information and looking at pictures. It wasn’t until I visited the college’s that I really decided. So, I highly recommend taking a campus tour before making a decision and here are 5 reasons why.

Campus Tour1. Explore the campus in person – There is no way to really get a feel for the campus and the community with out actually visiting. You will be able to see the real deal. Is the campus well maintained? Are people friendly? Is there anything going on?

2. Opportunity to ask students your questions -We all know that we can find good information on the web or in books, but if you really want personal incite it is best to talk to a real student. I found that the tour guides were very honest and informed. In fact, I was able to rule out one of my choices because the tour guide was uninformed and impersonal.

3. See the classroom experience first-hand –  Is it a lecture style classroom or are they just like high school classrooms?  Which one do I prefer?  You can get the answers to these questions and even more if you take a campus tour.  When I was taking all my campus tours, I realized that I favor the high school like classrooms better.

4. See the dorms –  When deciding whether or not you are going to dorm, make sure that you take into account what the dorm experience is really like.  Not everyone is going to have what it takes to dorm.  Although, I have been told that everyone should dorm at least one semester to get that true “college life”,  I formed for two weeks over the summer and it was not for me.  Do not feel pressured to dorm; do what is best for you.

5. You will be prepared – After all is said and done, and you have been on more college tours than you count, you will be prepared.  Without the campus tour experience(s), you may pick a school that you would not have picked otherwise.  It may seem like a drag and you do not want to do it, but it is probably the best thing that you can do to start off your college experience.

Well folks, that is all for now.  It is finals/Regents week and I am taking my sister back and fourth to school.  Until next time my loyal readers!

Fare and be well; let the words be yours for I am done with mine.
