Should schools be teaching more things about lifestyle?

Some of us that are in high school already know what they want to do. While most in college know what they want to do, others do not. For every person that does know what they want to do, there is a person that does not know what they want to do. A lot of times these students go unnoticed. I know the feeling of being in school and not knowing what to do. I have changed majors several times. It was like you’re just in school just because it is a norm in our culture that school is something we must attend no matter what. If there aren’t any majors that interest you in school there might be other options than being in school.

College can be very stressful. The reality is that there are kids that cannot function in a school setting. Just because you are not going to school does not mean you can’t be successful. To some people in the world it might seem like these students are not being productive. However, that is not the case. There are options for people that do not want to go to school.

One option would be is to test the job market right after high school. It is believed that a degree will allow you to make the most money. However, this isn’t always true. There are jobs out there that you can you eventually work your way up in to receive a higher salary. Here’s a list of jobs that with time offer pay raises and promotions. Mass transportation operator, power plant operator, and construction supervisor. These job do not require a high school diploma. With hard work you can earn decent living.

Another option is to attend trade school. The positive about trade school is that it provides you direct entry into a field of study. Sometimes it is required that you get an associate’s degree, but for the most part this is something that can be done right out of high school. As opposed to school, it only takes about a year or two for most trades. The average salary for someone with a college degree is $45,000, compared to people from trade school with $42,000. There is not that much difference. Going to trade school also helps with skills that will be definitely needed in most jobs.

Starting a business is also another option. Starting a business nowadays is easier than ever before. With just a computer and internet connection there are so many opportunities that can be taken advantage of. With drive and determination, becoming a business owner is an attainable goal. There are some people in the business world that are successful that do not have college education. Examples would be Bill Gates, Henry Ford, Michael Dell and even Walt Disney.

Maybe even taking an online class would be beneficial, more than going to school. Sometimes the school atmosphere is not for everybody. There are kids who don’t like to learn in front of people. There are also some who cannot function in a school setting. This type of learning would be better to them then learning in class. Although it might not equal up to a degree, it will give you skills in the workforce.

Another thing that could be done other than school is to join the military. There are many students that prefer this option over going to college. One of the reasons is the benefits that go with being in it. The military offers to help fund schooling and also teaches you stuff that would be found in trade school. They provide this in the form of jobs that would be done on the base. These jobs include being involved in things such as a chef, construction worker and special operations. People basically choose this because of the opportunities it can open. You even get paid for these jobs better then what most high school students start out with initially.

To me in a general aspect I feel that it is okay for students who do not fit well in school. However, I am not advocating for people to just bypass school and just go do whatever. I think school is a good thing. It’s never a bad thing to have a degree in something. However, if there’s no interest in majors and they want to do things such as business and online class, there is nothing wrong with that.

As so long as the student is educated on the pros and cons of everything that they are doing, I do not see the issue with alternatives. However, there are some students who are maligned and are forced to attend school. Like how can a student be forced to do something that they don’t want to do. They wouldn’t give their all in school and they would just be there just to be there. Just imagine being in class bored out of your mind doing something that doesn’t interest you.

I believe that as long as you know the ins and outs of what you are doing there should not be a problem if school is not the best option for you. There are plenty of options out there.
