The Bard Set to Music: An Arts & Sciences Colloquium Event

Thursday, 11/9, 10:50 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.     Knapp Hall, University Club

Dr. Edward Plough, Assistant Professor, English/Humanities, will present
“From R&B to Bollywood,” an exploration of masculinity inShakesperare two
Shakespearean musical adaptations: Richard III and The Winter’s Tale.

Join Dr. Plough as he examines a Bollywood take on Richard III, and an R&B/fantasy interpretation of The Winter’s Tale. Both musicals use their respective musical genres to realign the racial and cultural landscapes of their source plays. By studying the shifts these adaptive moves cause, we can gain insight into Shakespeare’s preoccupation with masculinity in Richard III and The Winter’s Tale.
