You Don’t Have to Miss a Meal
October 5, 2020
FSC students should not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. That’s where SNAP and the Health & Wellness Center come in.
SNAP – the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – is the largest federal nutrition assistance program. SNAP provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families via an Electronic Benefits Transfer card. The card is used like a debit card to purchase eligible food in authorized retail food stores.
Counselors at the Health & Wellness Center are here to make referrals for you, and help determine if you a SNAP-eligible.
“We understand that feeling insecure about where to find the next meal can have huge psychological and academic effects on college students,” says Kelsey Russell, Associate Director of Substance Abuse Outreach & Prevention Programming. “We want to help by working in collaboration with the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island to get eligible students set up with SNAP benefits or other programs.”
