Micro-credentials for Students Ready for Fall Semester

FSC has introduced three new micro-credentials – credentials that validate and attest that specific skills and/or competencies have been achieved.

The micro-credentials are Geothermal Accredited Installer,  Developmental Science: Child Emphasis, and Sustainable Horticulture.

According to Dr. Jennifer Bryer, Interim Assistant Provost, micro-credentials can be credit or non-credit bearing, are designed to help students and other participants distinguish themselves in the marketplace, and support business and community partners. The value to students is three-fold.

Micro-credentials:

  1. Highlight competencies earned in a credit-bearing program
  2. Serve as an introduction or entry to a degree program
  3. Provide students with skill-sets complementary to those learned in a degree program or on the job.
Contents of the new micro-credentials are described as follows:
Geothermal Accredited Installer: This micro-credential provides skills to install and troubleshoot Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems, and teaches the overall system design of geothermal systems.

Developmental Science: Child Emphasis: Earners of this micro-credential will demonstrate an understanding of the educational, emotional, intellectual, and social development of children.

Sustainable Horticulture: This micro-credential will increase knowledge of contemporary landscape sustainable practices, and help solve regional environmental problems.
