“934” New FSC Area Code

Enrollment has been going up and up, and that means more faculty and staff offices. That, in turn, means more and more phone numbers are needed. So to keep pace with FSC’s growth, the College has acquired a large block of continuous numbers in the new Suffolk County 934 area code.

The new 934 area code is now active and delivering calls to your phone. Beginning Thursday, 1/2/2020, the campus will officially use the 934 area code for its primary phone numbers. The 934 area code will replace the current 631 for the campus. All campus phone numbers (including the current 794 exchanges) will become 934-420-XXXX.

For 420 exchanges, the last four digits of your extension remain the same.

For 794 exchanges, the 6 of the extension will change to 5, and the last three digits will remain the same. For those whose extensions change, callers will receive a message explaining the new number, and be directed to dial the last four numbers to be transferred to their destination. Those who receive new extensions will be contacted by Information Technology and advised of their new number.  All callers, whether from Nassau, Suffolk, or elsewhere, will call 934-420-XXXX to reach you.

For example:

 Current Number   New Number

 631-420-2XXX          934-420-2XXX

631-794-6XXX           934-420-5XXX

Anyone continuing to use the 631 area code will receive a recorded message that the area code has changed. This reminder will continue into the summer months. A limited number of student services main lines (such as Campus Main, Admissions, UPD) will continue with both numbers. All others eventually will be retired.

Please inform your off-campus constituencies, business associates, and family members to use the 934 area code beginning 1/2/20. Reminders will take place through December and January in the Campus Times, our entrance signs, and other venues used for messages.

Also, all print materials, business cards, publications, correspondence, and e-mail signatures should reflect the new 934 area code moving forward. A new system to handle business card orders is coming soon, so do not order business cards until the updated system is ready.
