LI’s Transgender Day of Remembrance at FSC this Year
Long Island’s annual Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held at FSC this year. It’s part of an international event held since 1999, to memorialize the lives of people murdered because they were transgender, gender non-conforming, or non-binary.
Community members and Farmingdale students will speak about their lives as transgender, gender non-conforming, or non-binary. Kylie Madhav, from New York City’s LGBT Center, is the keynote speaker, and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran will speak as well. There will also be performances and a candlelight vigil.
The event is being organized – in conjunction with the Human Rights Campaign – by FSC’s Love Over Hate club, and Dr. Erica Jayne Friedman, the group’s advisor and assistant director of the RAM program. The event is free and open to the campus and local communities.
