LIEOC Event Inspires Hundreds of H.S. Students to Say “Yes I Can!”

Students enjoy their visit to FSC

The Long Island Educational Opportunity Center (LIEOC) at FSC recently held an event titled “Long Island College?…Yes, You Can! Si tu Puedes!” The brainchild of Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote, LIEOC Executive Director, the meeting was designed to enlighten high school students of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds to the opportunities available to them in higher education, and to help them discover the different types of career opportunities open to them.

More than 300 students from Nassau and Suffolk counties participated in student panels; campus tours; small-group workshops; financial aid, career services, and admissions sessions; and met professors.

N.Y.S. Assemblyman Phil Ramos was the keynote speaker, and students also heard from President Nader, Dr. Veronica Henry, Dr. Lynn Elfe and Dr. Kevin Jordan.
