An Invitation to Celebrate our New International Flag Display
October 17, 2016
An Invitation to the Farmingdale Campus Community
I am thrilled to invite you to join me in celebrating our new display of international flags at Bunche Plaza in front of Greenley Library. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 25 (rain date will be October 26) at 11:00 a.m. at the Plaza. All are welcome.
The 42 newly installed flags represent the diverse group of nations from which Farmingdale State College has had graduates. The October 25 date coincides closely with U.N. Day and the annual awarding of the Nobel Prize for Peace.
As you may know, Dr. Ralph Bunche, for whom the Plaza is named, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1950 and was instrumental in the founding of the United Nations.
Built in 1967, the Ralph Bunche Plaza was first dedicated in 1973 and rededicated in 2013, to reflect the new fountain and installation of a plaque honoring Dr. Bunche’s accomplishments. The flags will make this beautiful Plaza even more attractive and celebrate U.N. Day, Dr. Bunche and our inclusive and diverse campus population.
I look forward to seeing you on October 25.
