Colin Goldberg: A survey of work from 2005-2015
Mr. Goldberg has coined the term “techspressionism” to describe his artistic practice which embraces the integration of digital tools and techniques within the traditional art-making paradigm of drawing and painting. Stylistically, the artist’s work is informed by a diverse range of sources, including Abstract Expressionist painters, Japanese calligraphy and woodcuts, and pop-era artists who re-contextualized commercial printmaking techniques within the paradigm of painting. Goldberg’s visual language draws upon the lexicon of technology. The majority of his works contain digitally composed elements, drawn on a graphics tablet. Often executed on linen, paper or birch panels, Goldberg uses a combination of digital and traditional media including inkjet, pigment transfer, oils, gouache, acrylic, graphite and resin. Some works are composed digitally, and executed completely by hand.
