Student Entrepreneurs DARE to Compete April 7

It’s official. FSC is sending six student entrepreneurs to the April 7 L.I. Regional Competition of DARE – Dare to Risk Entrepreneurship. Part of the NYS Business Plan Competition, DARE is a program that encourages students to think like entrepreneurs, and provides them with tools and resources to develop their prospective businesses.
Our six budding businesspeople will take on fellow entrepreneurs from Stony Brook, Hofstra and NYIT, here, in Campus Center Ballrooms A, B and C, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The students who have earned their way into the regionals include:
- Karl Nilsen – Wave Warmers are the first hand and foot warmers specifically designed for surfing.
- Gina Guerrieri – Underground Anthems is a magazine for music lovers who want to discover new music, and new bands looking to promote themselves.
- Steven Calixte – Neila Planetarium is a fashion retail group that creates innovative environments and functional apparel.
- Giovhanny Archer – Miracle Marketing Group creates marketing, website design and other business solutions for an affordable monthly price.
- Jacob Manning – Quin Tech provides IT services for home computer and small-business users.
- Zubair Maqsood – Cloudshop is a service that provides software designers an online retail presence without having to create their own e-commerce site.
Cash prizes at the regionals range from $1,000 – $5,000. The state-wide competition will be held at SUNY Polytechnic University in Albany on April 29.
