Governor Taps FSC Police Chief for NYS Appointment
February 15, 2016
Our own police chief, Marvin Fischer, has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York State Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council – the body that accredits law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Chief Fischer is one of 17 members of the Council, which is responsible for adopting standards, setting policy and granting accreditation.
“Working in higher education, I understand the importance of accreditation to our academic programs,” Chief Fischer said. “New York State recognized this for criminal justice and established the Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council to establish standards for law enforcement agencies. It is an honor to be appointed to the Council by Governor Cuomo.”
Chief Fischer has been head of the campus University Police since 1998, and is an alumnus too. He holds a degree in criminal justice/police science, and is a former president of the FSC Alumni Association. He is currently president of the Chiefs of Police Association in Suffolk County, and one of three New York State representatives to the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems Workgroup. He is also a member of the Nassau County Municipal Police Chiefs Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the American Society of Industrial Security, and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. He is a previous president, and currently policy chair, of the State University Police Chiefs Association.
