Are you worried about landing an internship in your field or finding a job upon graduation? Well, do something about it. Go to the newly opened Nexus Center in the Greenley Library building for help with everything from finding out what career path is right for you to getting help circulating your resume to potential employers. The Nexus Center officially opened its doors on February 27. <\/span><\/p>\n

Helping students navigate the sometimes daunting employment process is the mission of the center. This mission reflects the college\u2019s newly enhanced applied learning focus. Next year, an applied learning experience, where students apply what they learn in the classroom to a professional environment, will be required for graduation. The Nexus Center will play a pivotal role in connecting students with their applied learning experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Freshman Jamie Alexander Fenton, a Criminal Justice major, said, \u201cThe Nexus Center will help raise students\u2019 awareness about all of the internships and other opportunities that are out there.\u201d Freshman Alyssa Wasin, who is majoring in Applied Economics, agreed with Fenton. She added that \u201cA lot of students in my field, well in any field actually, really need internships.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Nexus Center executive director Rena Varghese, \u201cApplied learning is key to our continuing goals of preparing students for the workforce and meeting the needs of employers. The new Nexus Center allows us to offer a unified front for external partners to engage with the college and connect with our students, which satisfies mutually beneficial interests.”<\/span><\/p>\n

To foster strong student\/employer relationships, the Nexus Center will host CareerConnect, a Web-based system that enables students to upload cover letters and resumes for circulation among potential employers. Nexus also offers Career Readiness workshops, numerous career focussed events, including job fairs, technology fairs and and graduate school fairs, and help with interviewing skills.<\/span><\/p>\n
