{"id":4082,"date":"2019-02-16T15:00:25","date_gmt":"2019-02-16T20:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/rambassadors\/?p=4082"},"modified":"2019-02-15T15:02:03","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T20:02:03","slug":"hidden-gems-of-farmingdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/rambassadors\/2019\/02\/hidden-gems-of-farmingdale\/","title":{"rendered":"Hidden Gems of Farmingdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many people make the mistake of viewing college as strictly academic.\u00a0 A lot of people only go to class in a handful of lecture halls then go home.\u00a0 There is so much more to this campus if you decide to explore and interact with others.\u00a0 College can be stressful, and even though we have difficult coursework, there is still a time and place for fun and social activities.\u00a0 Farmingdale State College is full of diverse students, different organizations, and elite academic programs.\u00a0 When you first come here for a tour, although very informative, it is still just a glimpse of what we have to offer.\u00a0 As you spend more time on the campus as a student you gain a different perspective.\u00a0 If you get involved more you will experience new activities, meet new people, and discover new places.\u00a0 I am extremely comfortable with my knowledge of the campus compared to the first time I came here.\u00a0 Here are some of the things I have learned since Freshman year that truly improved my college experience.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4084\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4084\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/rambassadors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2019\/02\/3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4084\" title=\"3\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/rambassadors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2019\/02\/3-300x170.png\" alt=\"3\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4084\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">3<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sometimes you need a quiet place to study, or just sit down and relax.\u00a0 I first learned about the Teaching Gardens during my freshman orientation.\u00a0 They are located behind Thompson Hall, and there is another entrance in the University Police parking lot.\u00a0 Your visit will be best when the weather is good and the plants are in full bloom during the early fall semester or late spring.\u00a0 It is truly a beautiful experience to feel the cool breeze, smell the flowers, and hear the birds chirping.\u00a0 Even better if you bring a friend.\u00a0 There is a Horticulture program at the college and they work very hard to maintain the grounds and develop elaborate displays across the campus.\u00a0 If you want to take explore the campus, definitely pay a visit to the teaching gardens.\u00a0 Another good place to relax is the MADD garden.\u00a0 This is a memorial that stands for Mothers Against Drunk Driving and it is located in between Greenley and Hale.\u00a0 The garden is very symbolic and is dedicated to students and families whose lives have been affected by drunk driving.\u00a0 It is usually not too busy and is a calm place to sit down and reflect.\u00a0 Another thing that not too many people know about is that there are a ton of resources inside of Roosevelt Hall.\u00a0 There is a free gym with plenty of weights and cardio equipment, the Loft Lounge for dancing and yoga\/group classes, and the Ram\u2019s Den where students can play pool and socialize.\u00a0 Other places include the Disability Services Center and the Office for Veteran\u2019s Services.\u00a0 The next place that very few people know about is especially appealing for aspiring entrepreneurs;
