{"id":8741,"date":"2017-02-06T09:28:31","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T14:28:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=8741"},"modified":"2017-02-13T09:27:22","modified_gmt":"2017-02-13T14:27:22","slug":"fsc-nursing-students-waaaaaay-above-average","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2017\/02\/06\/fsc-nursing-students-waaaaaay-above-average\/","title":{"rendered":"FSC Nursing Students Waaaaaay Above Average"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FSC nursing students are nearly perfect.\u00a0 How does 94.75% out of 100% sound?\u00a0 Well, that&#8217;s what the 2016 pass rate was for FSC nurses-to-be who took the NCLEX RN exam.\u00a0 Compare that to the state average of 78.42%, and you see why Farmingdale&#8217;s nursing program is second to none.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8767 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/Nurses-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"_Tgc\">The NCLEX exam is a standardized exam that each state board of nursing uses to determine whether or not a candidate that has successfully completed an accredited nursing degree is prepared for entry-level nursing practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Department chair Dr. Kathleen Cino is quick to give credit to Dr. Christine Glaser, creator, and coordinator of the senior-level capstone course that prepares nursing students for the exam. The course is divided into nursing theory and clinical practice. For 315 hours, students work under the supervision of an experienced nurse clinician in an area hospital, learning to integrate and apply knowledge from their course work to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of multiple patients.<\/p>\n<p>Students choose the area of specialization for their clinical course work and Dr. Glaser works with contacts throughout the region to make it happen. Her students are partnered with preceptors chosen because of their expertise in clinical practice. The classroom component of the capstone includes a review of content found on the NCLEX exam. There are also one-to-one weekly meetings with nursing faculty to practice NCLEX questions, challenge critical-thinking skills, and develop a comfort level for the exam.
