{"id":8124,"date":"2017-01-09T09:09:49","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T14:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=8124"},"modified":"2017-01-17T08:50:34","modified_gmt":"2017-01-17T13:50:34","slug":"fsc-sunys-most-veteran-friendly-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2017\/01\/09\/fsc-sunys-most-veteran-friendly-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"FSC SUNY&#8217;s Most Veteran-Friendly Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUNY has counted heads and the numbers tell the story: FSC has the highest percentage of veterans on campus &#8211; 2.1% &#8211; of all SUNY schools. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8137 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/12\/veteran-graduating-300x132.jpg\" alt=\"veteran-graduating\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By comparison, SUNY&#8217;s Albany campus has 255 veterans (FSC has 194), but that&#8217;s only 1.48% of a student body that is nearly double FSC&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are a number of reasons for the numbers, but I think one of the primary reasons is that FSC is a veterans\/military-friendly campus,&#8221; said Dr. Tom Corti, Vice President for Student Affairs and a veteran himself.\u00a0 &#8220;Our Veterans Services department has created a climate of inclusion. Many student-veterans tell us that having a Veterans Services office has made a difference for them in choosing to attend FSC and, more importantly, to remain at FSC and graduate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Eric Farina, who heads the Veterans Services department, added: \u201cOur office has grown\u00a0 35% over the last five years as a result of the high level of personal care given to each veteran.\u00a0 It is the ethos of this office to treat each applicant and new student as an individual, not a number filing through an office door. Once accepted and attending classes, the student-veterans are embraced by a cohort of like-minded fellow veterans who aid in the facilitation of certain programs and benefits aimed at assimilating them to the civilian college environment.
