{"id":8089,"date":"2017-01-03T08:29:55","date_gmt":"2017-01-03T13:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=8089"},"modified":"2017-01-03T10:00:58","modified_gmt":"2017-01-03T15:00:58","slug":"smart-energy-house-to-get-an-insulation-fix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2017\/01\/03\/smart-energy-house-to-get-an-insulation-fix\/","title":{"rendered":"Smart Energy House to Get an Insulation Fix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FSC&#8217;s Smart Energy House &#8211; a demonstration project designed to inform home owners and builders about energy conservation, renewable energy, and cost-saving elements that can be used in residential buildings &#8211; recently underwent two energy audits that revealed that the efficiency of the house could be improved by installing more insulation in the attic and around the air handlers in the crawl space.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8092 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/12\/smart-house-exterior-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"smart-house-exterior\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jay Best of Green Audit USA pointed out that the focus on high-technology efficiencies often results in neglecting some of the basics. Greg Webster of Radiant Insulation estimated that the insulation would improve the house\u2019s efficiency by a minimum of 20%.<\/p>\n<p>The energy audit was a result of collaboration between FSC\u2019s Renewable Energy &amp; Sustainability Center (RESC), CDCLI (Community Development Corporation of Long Island), and the Sustainability Institute at Molloy College.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8102\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8102\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-8102 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/12\/issapour.goodstone.5787-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"issapour-goodstone-5787\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8102\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RESC Director Marj Issapour points out Smart Energy House features to Associate Provost Michael Goodstone<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to Professor Marjaneh Issapour, Director of Farmingdale\u2019s RESC, \u201cThese energy audits confirm that even smart energy houses can be made more efficient.
