Recently, the sister of longtime Long Island Association event planner Barbara Legname dedicated a newly designed and furnished conference room and reception area in Greenley Library in her honor.<\/p>\n

Sister Roberta Lea\u00a0spoke of Barbara’s strong affinity for Farmingdale – which she attended in the late 1960s – and hoped that her sister’s room would be enjoyed by staff, faculty, and students for years to come.<\/p>\n

Roberta thanked the college for the opportunity to redesign and refurnish the room with elegant Ethan Allen conference tables, \u00a0chairs, a loveseat, bookcases, and art. \u00a0And on the wall are photos of Barbara Legname with dignitaries from around the globe.\u00a0Those who’ve met in Greenley 125 over the years will barely recognize the room.<\/p>\n

Described as the heart and soul of the LIA, Barbara was praised by those who gave remarks as a\u00a0person with enormous pride in, and dedication to, her work.<\/p>\n

As the LIA event planner, Legname brushed elbows with powerful people from around the globe. One of the guests thought that Barbara’s favorite “get” was to have both Bush Sr and George W as presenters.<\/p>\n

Long-time friend Phyllis Hill Slater, president of the Hill Slater Group, pointed out that Barbara’s work put Long Island on the map by bringing world leaders here.<\/p>\n

Several of the room’s paintings were donated by Dr. Matilde Fava.<\/p>\n
