{"id":4010,"date":"2016-03-14T07:30:23","date_gmt":"2016-03-14T11:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=4010"},"modified":"2016-03-21T09:34:06","modified_gmt":"2016-03-21T13:34:06","slug":"theres-still-time-to-learn-how-to-be-a-mentor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2016\/03\/14\/theres-still-time-to-learn-how-to-be-a-mentor\/","title":{"rendered":"There&#8217;s Still Time to Learn How to Be a Mentor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Farmingdale welcomes the New York State Mentoring Program back to campus for joint recruitment and training on Tuesday, March 15\u00a0at 11:00 a.m. and on T<strong>hursday, March 17\u00a0at 3:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Representatives from the program will present a brief overview of the mentoring program, then offer training for volunteer mentors.\u00a0 The nine FSC members who have already signed up to become a mentor are encouraged to attend either training session (attendance at one session only is required of all mentors).<\/p>\n<p>New Mentor Training benefits everyone!\u00a0 Mentors will take part in an interactive training which features small group discussion, role play and demonstrations. This training will support participants\u2019 understanding of mentoring best practices and the program\u2019s \u00a0school based-model. We will review program policies and expectations, answer questions and offer mentor support.\u00a0 This will be the beginning of a collaborative relationship among the program staff, the school and the mentors.<\/p>\n<p>New mentors are encouraged to attend even if they have not yet signed up to become a mentor.
