{"id":3853,"date":"2016-03-07T07:16:33","date_gmt":"2016-03-07T12:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=3853"},"modified":"2016-03-21T09:39:57","modified_gmt":"2016-03-21T13:39:57","slug":"funeral-notification-procedural-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2016\/03\/07\/funeral-notification-procedural-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Funeral Notification Procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To the Campus:<\/p>\n<p>The college has tried different means to relay information about deaths and funerals of deceased colleagues or close family members.<\/p>\n<p>Our foremost concern is to support the caring community that exists at Farmingdale by sharing information in an appropriate manner.\u00a0 Collecting and distributing information is not simple however.\u00a0 Surviving family members must approve before an announcement, and the timely collection and distribution of information imposes a special challenge.\u00a0 And this task increases as the college grows in number of faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Following is a change in the procedure for notifying the campus of deaths and funeral information.<\/p>\n<p>Messages will be limited to deaths of current employees, their spouses\/partners, children, siblings and parents. For former employees, these messages will be limited to former faculty\/ staff and their spouses\/partners.\u00a0 Notices will also be sent for individuals with close existing or former affiliation with the college, such as College Council and Foundation members.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral notices will be handled and sent by the Office for Institutional Advancement during business hours Monday through Friday, with the exception of legal holidays and campus closings. On weekends, holidays and campus closings, the Vice Presidents (Academic Affairs, Administration and Finance, Institutional Advancement, Student Affairs) and President\u2019s Office will, at their discretion, distribute funeral messages on deaths of individuals within their departments or divisions.<\/p>\n<p>To submit a funeral notification, please click on a link to access a form that is included in every issue of the Campus Times. This link will be permanently active so you may submit on any weekday. You may also access this form at<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmingdale.edu\/funeral\" target=\"_blank\">farmingdale.edu\/funeral<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0 Information on the form will be used to generate an email to faculty and staff as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p>I realize this is not a perfect system, and so departments and individuals are encouraged to spread information on deaths as they determine appropriate among colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>I want to thank the Office for Institutional Advancement, which has held responsibility for funeral notifications and for devising this revised system.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n<p>Hubert Keen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To the Campus: The college has tried different means to relay information about deaths and funerals of deceased colleagues or close family members.
