{"id":29872,"date":"2020-05-18T09:26:21","date_gmt":"2020-05-18T13:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=29872"},"modified":"2020-05-18T09:26:21","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T13:26:21","slug":"micro-credentials-for-students-ready-for-fall-semester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2020\/05\/18\/micro-credentials-for-students-ready-for-fall-semester\/","title":{"rendered":"Micro-credentials for Students Ready for Fall Semester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">FSC has introduced three new micro-credentials &#8211; <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">credentials that validate and attest that specific skills and\/or competencies have been achieved.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The m<span lang=\"en-US\">icro-credentials are Geothermal Accredited Installer,\u00a0 Developmental Science: Child Emphasis, and Sustainable Horticulture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. <span lang=\"en\">Jennifer Bryer, <\/span><span lang=\"en\">Interim Assistant Provost, micro-credentials can be credit or non-credit bearing, are designed to help students and other participants distinguish themselves in the marketplace, and support business and community partners. The value to students is three-fold.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">Micro-credentials:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span lang=\"en-US\">Highlight competencies earned in a credit-bearing program <\/span><\/li>\n<li>Serve as an introduction or entry to a degree program<\/li>\n<li>Provide students with skill-sets complementary to those learned in a degree program or on the job.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>Contents of the new micro-credentials are described as follows:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><b>Geothermal Accredited Installer: <\/b>This micro-credential provides skills to install and troubleshoot Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems, and teaches the overall system design of geothermal systems.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><b>Developmental Science: Child Emphasis: <\/b>Earners of this micro-credential will demonstrate an understanding of the educational, emotional, intellectual, and social development of children.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><b>Sustainable Horticulture: <\/b>This micro-credential will increase knowledge of contemporary landscape sustainable practices, and help solve regional environmental problems.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact <strong><a href=\"mailto:bryerj@farmingdale.edu\">Dr. Bryer<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FSC has introduced three new micro-credentials &#8211; credentials that validate and attest that specific skills and\/or competencies have been achieved.\u00a0 The micro-credentials are Geothermal Accredited Installer,\u00a0 Developmental Science: Child Emphasis, and Sustainable Horticulture.
