The learning-intensive four-day program gave students the opportunity to network with leadership experts from around the U.S. and to address this challenge: \u201cHow do we ensure technological innovation delivers societal as well as economic value in cities?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SUNY described the program&#8217;s purpose this way: Students tackle a global challenge in their current city as part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary, international group. The program will take them off campus to tackle a global challenge in the heart of New York City. These immersive and experiential learning techniques give participants a unique opportunity to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grow their CQ (cultural intelligence)<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with diverse groups<\/li>\n<li>Build new networks with fellow students, contributors and leading organizations in the city<\/li>\n<li>Understand the value of different perspectives and experiences<\/li>\n<li>Practice the skills required to understand and navigate complexity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The students who attended the workshop include Megan Morillo Torres &#8217;22, Global Business Management; Xhovani Mali &#8217;22, Computer Engineering Technology; Heamily Singh &#8217;19, Applied Psychology; Shaheesta Rashedy &#8217;21, Bioscience; and Arslan Khurram &#8217;21, Computer Programming and Information Systems.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Amador, Employer Relations Specialist at the Nexus Center, said about the experience: \u201cEmployers regularly convey that they want to hire college graduates who have strong \u2018soft skills,\u2019 such as effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. \u00a0We were thrilled to sponsor our students, where they had the opportunity to learn valuable lessons about the importance of networking and working with others toward a common goal.
