Dr. Erwin Cabrera, associate director of FSC’s First in the World Research Aligned Mentorship (RAM) Program, will speak on “Why Undergraduate Research Experience?”<\/p>\n
Undergraduate research is steadily being integrated into the academic experience across colleges and universities across the country. Companies and graduate schools are increasingly seeking undergraduate research as a requirement for employment or admission. According to the Council of Undergraduate Research, engaged forms of learning – including involvement in research – are transformational experiences for undergraduate students. The seminar will illuminate the importance of undergraduate research, and give attendees a crash course on how to find and apply to competitive opportunities nationwide.<\/p>\n
Dr. Cabrera recently obtained a $300K NSF AGEP grant, FSC’s first institutional NSF grant. He places students in mentored research experiences on and off campus, in national laboratories, research universities, business accelerators, and other research venues. He joined FSC as a result of a
\n$3 million grant written by Dr. Beverly Kahn, director of FITW RAM.<\/p>\n
