Geothermal 101
\n<\/strong>Students will learn the basics of geothermal heat pumps systems. Topics such as what they are and are not, basic types of systems, benefits, efficiency ratings and best candidate properties for geothermal installation. Its focus is more on the consumer.<\/p>\nGeothermal 102 <\/strong>(immediately follows Geothermal 101)
\n<\/strong>Students will drill down deeper into the details. Students will learn specifics on the different types of geothermal systems, indoor mechanicals, the science behind heat pumps, regulations and codes, economic issues, and training opportunities. Its focus is more on the prospective installer and designer, HVAC contractor, architect, and engineer.<\/p>\nSpeakers:
\nBillii Robert<\/strong>i<\/strong> is co-owner, with her husband, of Green Choices Consulting. Together they researched energy efficiency, renewable <\/span>energy and healthy building materials before renovating their home to ENERGY STAR\u00ae standards and included solar PV and geothermal heat pump system. They started Green Choices Consulting when they realized consumers had no one to advise them on renewable energy and energy efficiency alternatives. <\/span>Billii is secretary of her town’s advisory committee on energy efficiency, renewables & sustainability and a member of two geothermal organizations. She has written state legislation, promotional material, white papers and website content. Her focus is to engage various stakeholders <\/span>to work together to address energy democracy, environmental restoration, and sustainability. She is a graduate of The Bronx High School of Science and University of Rochester and attended two years of a <\/span>PhD program at Georgia State University.<\/span><\/p>\nZachary Fink<\/strong> is the lead Geothermal Designer for ZBF Geothermal, LLC. At ZBF Geothermal, Zach specializes in high-performance geothermal heating and cooling systems. He consults on, designs and installs projects ranging for 1,500 square-foot residential homes to a 15-story rental building in New York City. Over the past six years, Zach has installed or designed more than 250 geothermal heating and cooling systems. He is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) certified installer. As a founding member of the Long Island Geothermal Energy Organization (LI-GEO) he serves as the organization’s Vice President, chairs the Educational Committees and co-chairs the Standards and Codes Committee.
