She is also director of sciences at Pioneer Works, and was recently named a Guggenheim Fellow. She has published three books, including <em>How the Universe Got Its Spots<\/em> and a novel, <em>A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines<\/em>, which won the PEN\/Bingham Prize.
