Education Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Yetunde A. Odugbesan-Omede, a visiting assistant professor in the Department of History, Politics and Geography, recently participated in the United Nations&#8217; meeting of its Education Commission, at an event called &#8220;Make Impossible Possible: Unlocking Human Potential Through Education.&#8221; Dr. Odugbesan-Omede has been working at the U.N. to ensure that young people around the world have access to quality education.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The work of the Education Commission is critical and vital to ensuring no child is left behind,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Odugbesan-Omede &#8211; who also serves as a policy adviser to various U.N. agencies &#8211; also moderated a panel, &#8220;Women &amp; Young People as Stakeholders in Building and Preserving Peace and Prosperity Across Africa.&#8221; She discussed sustaining a peaceful and prosperous Africa through poverty reduction efforts, empowering young women, increasing investments in education, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>In the classroom, Dr. Odugbesan-Omede says her aim is to develop FSC students into globally conscious scholars and leaders who will one day tackle the world&#8217;s most pressing issues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it\u2019s important for students to see that although we have local roots, we all have the ability to have global reach and create global impacts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Odugbesan-Omede also heads an organization called Young Woman\u2019s Guide, which provides leadership development and training to young women in Nigeria, South Africa and the U.S. She is a Senior Fellow with the Millennium Policy Institute Commission on Gender Equity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Yetunde A.
