{"id":17317,"date":"2018-04-23T13:25:12","date_gmt":"2018-04-23T17:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=17317"},"modified":"2018-04-30T09:51:59","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T13:51:59","slug":"bringing-home-the-bucks-from-national-entrepreneurs-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2018\/04\/23\/bringing-home-the-bucks-from-national-entrepreneurs-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Bringing Home the Bucks from National Entrepreneurs Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We reported recently that business management majors<br \/>\nWilliam Turano &#8217;18 and Tal <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-16386 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/03\/Lifted-Roots-logo-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"Lifted Roots logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" \/>Granot &#8217;18 had been chosen to compete in this year&#8217;s prestigious Schulze Entrepreneurship Challenge, to pitch their start-up business, Lifted Roots Vertical Farms, at e-Fest 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Now we&#8217;re happy to report Turano won second place in the Innovation Challenge, and brought home a $2,500 cash prize.<\/p>\n<p>Competing in the &#8220;Waste&#8221; category with teams from three other institutions, Turano had to apply principles of entrepreneurship and innovation to address the growing challenges of managing &#8211; reducing, reusing, recycling, re-purposing &#8211; materials that otherwise make it into the waste stream. The team convinced judges to invest\u00a0 in their venture.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As faculty advisor, I\u2019m very proud of William and Tal\u2019s achievement to compete and win at a national competition among students from many top universities around the country,&#8221; said Dr.\u00a0Jing Betty Feng, assistant professor of business management.<\/p>\n<p>Lifted Roots Vertical Farms,\u00a0founded by Turano in 2017, is a service that provides a hydroponic agricultural system that is versatile, mobile, and sustainable, to meet the consumer demand for farm-to-table foods. The system grows food responsibly and sustainably to reduce the environmental impact of food production.
