{"id":13839,"date":"2017-11-13T15:23:59","date_gmt":"2017-11-13T20:23:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=13839"},"modified":"2017-11-21T12:47:31","modified_gmt":"2017-11-21T17:47:31","slug":"interactive-installations-play-with-space-and-light","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2017\/11\/13\/interactive-installations-play-with-space-and-light\/","title":{"rendered":"Interactive Installations Play with Space and Light"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the first time ever, urban design\/horticulture <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13897 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/11\/horticulture-installation-300x142.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"142\" \/>students in Professor Stevie Famulari&#8217;s Plans I class will install two-part interactive installation in the Campus Center Study Lounge.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The installation will take place beginning at 6 p.m., Monday, November 20.<\/p>\n<p>Both installations, \u201cFree Your Words\u201d and \u201cThe Unseen Colors of the Visible Light Spectrum\u201d are built of fire-retardant paper and designed to be uniquely interactive with the campus community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Unseen Colors of the Visible Light Spectrum&#8221; allows the public to see aspects of light and shadows that are hidden from the naked eye, using structural objects. Different paper shapes suspended from the ceiling will facilitate this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFree Your Words\u201d creates a space which allows students to anonymously express their thoughts on an interactive, eight-foot-book page.<\/p>\n<p>Senior student Marley Doherty, who is studying Landscape Design, states: \u201cThis project allows students to not only learn essential skills of working together, but also how to take limited space on campus and create a design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Team manager Elizabeth Hickey also shares: \u201cWhile doing this project, I have learned leadership skills I never knew I possessed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The public reception for these designs will be Monday, November 27 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Study Lounge. At the reception, designers will demonstrate how the public can use the designs and everyone can enjoy the spaces the class has created.
