Body-worn cameras – the kind being used by 70% of police departments in the U.S. – are coming to Security Systems and Law Enforcement Technology classrooms this fall. The use\"\" of these cameras for instructional purposes is a “first” among institutions of higher learning.<\/p>\n

Bringing cameras into the classroom is the brainchild of Assistant Professor Brian Kelly, a former law enforcement officer himself, who is currently doing research with two police departments on the perception of these cameras.<\/p>\n

“After some careful brainstorming about\u00a0 which types of technology might enhance our program the most, as a former law enforcement officer who is engulfed in contemporary research, I would have been remiss not to propose Police Body-Worn Cameras for our technology-fee funding,” said Dr. Kelly. “It’s a hot topic in society and within police work itself, and no other college in the nation possesses or utilizes this equipment on a regular basis within their course curriculum. We are very lucky to secure this acquisition.”<\/p>\n

The cameras were purchased from L-3 Mobile-Vision, an industry leader in the development and distribution of these units. The cameras have at least one microphone and internal data storage.<\/p>\n

The body cameras will be used in CRJ 308 and 407 classes.<\/p>\n
