{"id":1056,"date":"2015-10-01T09:00:35","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T13:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/?p=1056"},"modified":"2015-10-06T11:25:41","modified_gmt":"2015-10-06T15:25:41","slug":"weather-notification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.farmingdale.edu\/sites\/campus-times\/2015\/10\/01\/weather-notification\/","title":{"rendered":"Weather Notification Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With winter approaching, this important reminder is being issued to all faculty, students, and staff on weather and other emergencies.<br \/>\nIn the event of a cancellation or delay in classes or activities, pertinent information and<br \/>\nannouncements are distributed in the following ways:<br \/>\n\u25a0 Campus-wide e-mail<br \/>\n\u25a0 Home page of the FSC website<br \/>\n\u25a0 Mobile website for smartphones (bookmark farmingdale.edu)<br \/>\n\u25a0 The college\u2019s social media accounts:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.farmingdale.edu\/facebook\">facebook.com\/farmingdale<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/Twitter.com\/farmingdalesc\">Twitter.com\/farmingdalesc<\/a>\u00a0for updates<br \/>\n\u25a0 Electronic signs at campus entrances<br \/>\n\u25a0 News media\u2014especially local radio stations such as WALK (97.5) and KJOY (98.3), and TV stations such as FIOS 1 and News 12 Long Island.<\/p>\n<p>Please do not call University Police for the status of classes or the campus. It is vital to<br \/>\nkeep the University Police phone lines available for true emergencies. Likewise, do not call<br \/>\nadministrative departments or the campus operators.<br \/>\nIf you have specific questions, contact your supervisor. Some offices also maintain phone chains; your department head will know if this additional communication channel is still being used in your department.<br \/>\nIn addition, it is recommended\u00a0that you sign up for RAVE, which distributes text messages on weather and other emergencies, and SUNY-Alert, which will call your designated phone with a recorded message on class cancellations or delays. To sign up for these services:<br \/>\n\u25a0\u00a0<strong>For RAVE<\/strong>, please visit www.getrave.com and select Farmingdale State College. Use your<br \/>\nFarmingdale user ID and password to enter the site. Please follow the directions on the<br \/>\nscreen to enroll.<br \/>\n\u25a0\u00a0<strong>For SUNY-Alert<\/strong>, please visit the University Police webpage at www.farmingdale.edu\/<br \/>\nuniversity-police\/. Announcements on classes are made only if there is a cancellation or delay. Otherwise, classes are in session.<br \/>\nHowever, as weather events evolve and circumstances change, it is important to keep checking the website, news media, your e-mail account, and the other communication venues for updates. Even if classes are cancelled, administrative and academic offices are customarily open, as only the Governor can order a complete closing of the campus.
